Yes you can.
There are many pro-choice and pro-gay marriage Republicans. They would fall in the socially liberal Republican category.
There are many conservative democrats. Bill and HIllary Clinton are two examples of this. Hillary was actually raised by a far right Republican family. Bill signed into law legislation that was very conservative on quite a few occassions... such as, a law making marriage between a man and a woman... defensive marriage act.

When I look at the more recent residents of the White House, I see something along the lines of what you are saying.
George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, and Ronald Reagan are/were fiscally liberal and socially conservative. That is, fiscally they all grew the government with heavy borrowing but remained conservative on social programs.
Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter are fiscally conservative and socially liberal. That is, they are both deficit hawks that shrank the federal budget. At the same time they were liberal on social programs.
I call myself a liberal but I align myself with Bill and Jimmy. Keep government as small as it can be and remain fair. Allow people to do what they want unless they are hurting someone.
I'm sure some conservatives will argue my assertions I have attached a link to some graphs by the Heritage Foundation (a conservative think tank) which illustrate the federal spending growth under Republicans.
That's conservative with a small c like Eisenhower and Goldwater. Not a capital C like Ronny, Dubya, Rush, and Ann C.

There is at least 1 Neocon Dem. Richard Pearl. His political mentor was Henry M "scoop" Jackson. Out of respect for Jackson, Pearl keeps his voter registration Dem.
Lincoln Chaffee is a liberal Republican.

McCain is considered a liberal republican, by extremist right-wingers, like the rest of the true conservatives are.

i think of they are the two caught of their ideology and have an identical "stubborness" whilst it includes their worldview. there exchange right into a study launched about a minutes in the past that of the human beings who had chosen to bypass "television loose", a majority have been the two religious neo-cons or religious liberals. They the two mistrusted the medium as being a device of the different element. the worldwide is usually as you view it.

Ha -- not really.
There are "moderates" on both sides, though.
Oh, and "liberal" and "neo-conservative" are not opposites -- "liberal" would be the opposite of plain old "conservative." "Neo-conservative" doesn't really have an opposite.

lol I am amazed at how confused people are.... no one knows what they are anymore....... the conservatives are just uninformed,,,, the moderates watch to much TV..and go to church too much,,,.. the libs see somewhat clearly,,,, and often the conspiracy theorists are more right,,,, than not....
Most republicans are middle of the road after things are explained to them,,, in simple slow terminology.... they often refuse to listen as it challenges their worldview...... but after they get over their pride... they become moderates....
I say, very few people know where they stand on the issues as the real issues are never discussed.......
people are more upset over abortions and gay marriages than they are over corporate lobbyists and the privatization of the federal reserve.......
as the media likes people to be,,,,,,, busy fighting over stupid issues..... to see the real ones,,,,,,,
