Ghz. is an abreviation for Gigahertz. Giga-meaning " Thousand " and Hertz meaning " How they measure CPU Processing speed " and example is I have a 1100 Ghz. CPU then I really have a CPU ( Central Processing Unit ) that can can Precess 1 thousand 1 hundred bytes of data on my computer per second.

and alternates at a frequency of 60 Hz

8 bits= 1 byte
1000 bytes = 1 kilobyte
1000 Kilobytes = 1 Mega byte
1000 Megabytes = 1 Gigabyte
The same works in hertz, which is frequecy. How many sine ways per second. 1 GHZ = 1,000,000,000 waves per second.
