I always try to. Some people are so dramatic about entering a party, it's weird how they can be. When I enter a party, I make a good impression or two by smiling and saying hello to someone I know. That indicates that I'm a nice, friendly person.

Do say hello to everyone as you pass by, even introduce yourself if you feel that it would help. Other people may be too shy to do it, so if you make the first step, you'll seem like a really outgoing person and we all like to be with outgoing people.

Shake hands with the host/hostess. Smile and appear to be happy that you are there. Answer questions politely. Compliment the host/hostess, on the decorations or food etc.
Be yourself.

Smile and appear genuinely interested in other people and what they want to talk about. Especially the host or hostess.

I think this is an outstanding party. Complement the host / hostess on something specific, but don't "gush".

if you want to make a good impression , it's wiser not to speak if you have pressure to be cool. than it's not cool at all.
