Leopard geckoes are the best starter lizards. They are a very low maintenance, friendly, but they are mostly solitary. So if you get one for starters you should not put another with it. If you decide on something else, Uromastix and bearded dragons are the next best ones. Beardies are social and alot of fun to watch. Minimal handling is recommended though for them as they really don't like people. Iguanas are another good starter but they get pretty long. Mine is about 7 feet long. Mostly tail though. Basilisks (jesus lizards) are also alot of fun. But a litter higher maintenance. Just look at some resources first to decide which is best for you.

Leopard Geckos are a good choice for a first time reptile owner. They are easy to take care of because they don't need a lot of room. If you want a bigger reptile and one you can handle try a bearded dragon.

if you plan on getting a lizard, a leopard gecko is a good start, go to the book store and get a book on their care first. (by the way, stay away from igunas-they are popular but difficult to take care of properly)

I have never had a gecko but I can tell you that Bearded dragons are loaded with personality. They will look at you when you converse with them. Mine are very docile and love to be handled.

I have Bearded Dragon named Stash. He is so chill. They are a sturdy breed you can get them fairly cheap too! Stash likes to jave his head scratched. He's kinda like a dog in the sense that he wants to be engaged with. They're cool.
