Should states in general put up the money to make state sport teams? Should that be a financial priority?

No. A state sports team to do what? Play the teams of others states obviously. OK, what sport? Baseball, football, basketball, etc are taken if you will. Soccer? OK but do you think Wyoming, the Dakotas, Nevada, etc have the population and tax base to support the teams. I doubt it.

No, the already limited state general revenues can be better used.

I don't think so, it will only lead to a chaos. there are lots of private and community avenues for that.
