So the experiments you need to do are on the Web, done by Adam and Jamie, those lovable Mythbusters! They do a one-by-one test with all the ingredients in Diet Coke, starting with plain soda water and adding in the ingredients one by one to see what does the trick.

It's not only a great episode, but it's a super introduction to how to conduct an experiment: isolate your variables, try them in combination, and formulate a solution that explains what you see. Watch the episode in the Sources field and you should get an idea about how to do your own winning experiment.

Best of luck! And while I'm advising you, in direct opposition to what they say on Mythbusters, that you DO try this at home... be sure you do it outside or your mom will skin you. :-)

Referring to the mentos-Diet Coke mix that causes pressure buildup and explosive results. I won't tell you what's going on exactly because that's your job as the student. Here's a helpful hint that may help you along the way...try researching some info on gas buildup by looking for books on this subject. And while this is not a scientifically valid source (in other words, if this is accepted as a reasonable source as background for your experiment, your teachers should be fired, but there is a little backstory/speculation at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mentos_eruption)... Sigh, I can't believe I just recommended a wikipedia article as a source.

Mythbusters is the best show to explain it but they use words you probably won't understand. The bottom line is the mentos has ridges on it that allow Carbon dioxide to buildup in them and the result is one awesome explosion. I'm going to leave it up to you to watch the mythbusters episode to figure out what ingredients in the coke make the explosion occur. And like has been said before they advise don't do this at home, but this is too cool not to so have fun and just do it outside.

So a number of their tests have been unsuccessful. yet once you drop Mentos in weight-help plan Coke you will get a bathtub especially in case you drop many. Later interior the practice the Mythbusters dropped Mentos in weight-help plan Coke and have been given approximately 30 ft severe.
