I have an albino leo and for some reason it stopped eating. It's tail is losing its girth and I am really worried. I have tried to give it waxworms directly and there are also crickets in the tank (1-2), however it does not seem interested in food items. Any help would be appreciated, it is only about 1 year old.

As stated above make sure your temps are good. The hot side should be between 88-92 and the cool side about 10 degress cooler. If they are good and have been then its something else. If he hasnt pooped in a while and you keep him on some type of lose bedding (sand, coco fiber, crushed coconuts) he could be impacted which a warm soak would help depending how bad the impaction is.

Have you introduced any new animals into you collection or have held any other reptiles in the last few days? If so there is a chance he has gotten some type of parasite or infection. Im not trying to scare you just giving you a heads up.

Also alot of people get scared around this time of year cuz most reptiles start slowing down due to winter and dont eat like they used to. This would not be the case if he isnt eatting at all.

If he is not eatting anything and is loseing weight at a fast rate i would call you local herp vet and have a fecal test done ASAP. If its some type of parasite then some Flagyl or Panacur should fix him right up.

I hope this helps... If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me at socalherpers@yahoo.com

The first answer was great, but has your leo pooped in awhile? Sometimes water helps with this, try putting a flat shallow bowl of water no higher than his belly in there and see if he gets in it. If it's warm enough in there maybe he'll poop...this also might help with a sand impaction. If this doesn't help, take him to a vet.

Check the temp, if the temp is right your best bet is gonna be taking it to a vet. Its best to stop all problems early with the smaller reptiles so I would urge you to take him ASAP.
