Part of kanes storyline back then was that he was in a fire and lost his voice box.

It's the device people use to talk when there have had throat surgery itwas just part of a storyline when tthe WWE was acting like Kane couldn't speak

Yeah he used to talk with a mic to his throat when he used to wear a mask, his gimmick was that the undertaker set his house on fire and his face and throat were burned in the fire. I think. WWE was really markish back then.

ya like a voicebox cause he couldnt talk with the mask covering his mouth so in 2002 taker tore a hole in it as an excuse for him to talk better i would kill to find a video of him talking with it.
