There are two possible answers to this-
1. I'll call this "Stereotypical Emo"
and 2. "Defined Emo"
Number 1 is often thought of as a "lifestyle" of sadness, possibly depression. In musical terms, sad music. Many artists/bands are put into this category- My Chemical Romance and Dashboard Confessional for example. It is also often associated with those people who wear black, possibly paint their nails black, wear tight pants and such. There is also the stereotype of cutting one's self.
Number 2, however is a bit more reasonable in my opinion, and it's mostly just considering music. "Emo" merely means emotional. Therefore, music that contains highly emotional lyrics can be called emo. Unfortunately it is a generally looked down upon word, so to classify your music-be it good or otherwise- as emo is often to degrade it.

It's stand for a new culture derived from the punk and Gothic style. Emo who's a short for emotional his a way of living where you don't have any difficulty of showing your emotions. This style his an answer to the way the society is now evolving in a more material way. This style comes with music like Avenged Sevenfold and a particular way of dressing who can be seen by simply typing emo in google.

emo = emotional
It's those people who hate themselves and are depressed and they cut themselves because they hate their life. There are different types of emo. There's the extreme ones who cut themselves and hate the light and world and then there are just those who are emo for a day or something because they are mad. I have been emo before but not the extreme kind. It mostly occurs with the teenage population.

It's short for emotional. I's a type of style. Kinda like a bad imatation of goth but with more depression and sorrow.

emo is emotional type of music! but all these kids seem to think its some way of life? or the way you dress or how you act or whatever just stupid stuff like that! its a genre of freakin music

Emo means not being emotionally stable, might be a bit fragile and delicately emotionally..that's what I was told...
