Nexium (and all proton-pump inhibitor drugs) are well documented in the scientific literature to cause bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine, malabsorption of minerals (e.g. calcium), and malabsorption of vitamin B12. A recent medical study found a 59% increased risk of hip fracture in older subjects that had taken Nexium regularly for 4 years.

Bottom-line: these are a dangerous class of drugs.

A good Chiropractor can help you with the Hiatal Hernia. An excellent book on treating the causes of acid reflux is available. It is written by Sherry Rogers, M.D. and is called: "No More Heartburn". The book is available at Amazon.com or from the publisher at 1-800-846-6687.

Best wishes and good luck.

I haven't had any problems with Nexium. You should check with a health food store. It may be something you could grow and use as needed. Hope this suggestion helps you.

The most common symptom of GERD is persistent heartburn. Heartburn is experienced as an unpleasant and painful burning sensation in the esophageal area.

If you have already been diagnosed with GERD / acid reflux you can also try out this natural remedy http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=568
