The body is a strange thing, with labor especially. I have had three children and the two natural births were completely different. My first daughter they had to break my water to start my contractions and later , 32 hrs later, they began. Now my second daughter, my water broke at home and within an hour my contractions began. The thing to check is how the water looks when it comes out and go ahead and call the doctor to let them know what is happening and your progress. Now according to the health chart of you and your children, they may have you come in and they may have you wait until your contractions are 5min apart and lasting a whole minute. The trouble with when the water breaks is that infection can now enter and also the babies natural protection is leaking out. You should definately call the doctor to let them know and then they can be better apt to tell you what to do next. Keep close to home and the hospital at this time in your pregnancy and keep your birth plan handy with the trunk full of suitcases. Good luck.

I've had 4 pregnancies and with the first 2 I didn't feel contractions until after my water broke. With the first pregnancy my water leaked and it took a few hours to be in full labor. With the second pregnancy my water broke and I was in full labor within a few minutes. That baby only took an hour to get here. With the other 2 I was in full labor before my water broke. Every pregnancy is different you never know. Chances are you will have contractions before you water breaks. Your doctor will probably want you to go to the hospital if your water breaks even if you aren't having contractions, but then again doctors are different too.

it really depends, when it's your first time giving birth the bag of wateres sometime doesn't break even if you feel strong contractions..sometime when you're already at the delivery bed then the doctor will be the one to puncture the bag of waters. in other cases, when the bag of waters break, you don't raelly feel anything..contractions start slow and sometimes it really doesn't hurt..not until the baby is coming out...it would be much better if you felt something leak out just like when menstrating except that it's colorless and not blodd, but there is a little drop of blood.then you should already go to the hospital for them to admit you and be prepared for the delivery of the baby... soem labor takes a long time around 4-20 hours..while some go through the stages of labor really quick..

There is no rule about when you should feel what, sometimes you will have contractions first, sometimes your waters will start leaking, and sometimes they will break completely with no other signs of labour. If your waters do break you should go to the hospital straight away, even if you have no contractions.
Congratulations on your twins :)

my water broke at 37 weeks and when it happened i wasn't having any contractions, until i was on th eway to th ehospital after changing and getting my stuff together, then they came but by the time my water broke at 11 got to the hospital i was fully dialated and delivered at 2.
it is different for all women some feel them before there water breakes others don't have them tell after but most women 85-90% of womens water do not break at all but has to be broke by dr or when the baby is coming out. it all depends and there is no way to tell.

When your water breaks you should go directly to the hospital and they need to know at what time it brook. (after 12 hours they gave me atibiotics).
My water brook and i thought i pee-ed myself I had to change my underwear 4 times before I realised what was happening and this was my second birth. My contractions started right away and increased from there. We live about 1 hour away from the hospital that I was delivering at so my husband drove like crazy to get there (cause the first time I lost it and he didn't want me to do that in the car)
We got to the hospital in 38min. I love him for it!!!
Congradulations and best of luck and if I had to give advice to first time mothers I would say go in with an open mind.
Best of luck!!!

No sometimes your water brakes and you will not have contractions until later but, if it does call your doctor because that's a way of knowing that it's time. Don't wait for pain if your water brakes call you doctor.

Every labor is different. Your water may break before or after your contractions start, or not until a doctor does it for you.

For me, I had already been having steady contractions for about an hour before my water broke. After that, they got more intense.

I WOULD GO STRAIGHT TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER MY WATER BREAKS OR WHEN I FEEL CONTRACTIONS. YOU NEVER KNOW THE BABY CAN COME RIGHT AWAY AFTER YOUR WATER BREAKS AND YOU COULD GO INTO LABOR. MY WATER BROKE AND THEN 2 HOURS LATER I HAD MY BABY. EVERYBODY HAS A DIFFERENT EXPIERENCE SO, I WOULD JUST GO STRAIGHT TO THE HOSPITAL.BETTER TO GO AND SEE WHAT A NURSE SAYS THEN TO SIT BACK AND GUESS WHAT YOU SHOULD DO.
