African is a culture/nationality. Caucasion is a race/ethnicity.
You can be a black man born and raised in France, you are french. But if you live in the US and passed citizenship, you are american citizen. Therefore, the black man's culture is french and american. His ethnicity is black.
People will be shocked when a black man will say I am french and american.
Ignorant people will say "If you are french and american, why are you black?"

In the movie "Mean Girls", there was a caucasion female student who was from South Africa, this other narrowminded student questioned the girl "If you are african, why are you white?"

If a person is born in Africa, they are African...regardless of anything else. The color of your skin doesn't have anything to do with that.

When you say "real" I suspect that you mean, native born. The term "african" may be applied to them because of nationality, but lineage and ancestry, I suspect no.

I don't because they're ancestors are EUROPEAN! Their ancestors came their to try and concur all of Africa and at that time they were called Afrikaaners(spelling?). So no I don't refer to them as REAL Africans...cause they're not.
