After two marking periods I've recieve a 94% and 97%. How do I find out what I need to get on my final, being twenty percent of my semester grade to keep an A?

Here's what you do:
Let's make A the value you need to keep an A for the class. In most places it's 90%, but I've seen it as high as 93 or 95.

The formula in your case would be (First term * 2)+(2nd term * 2)+(Exam score) all divided by 5.

So if the score needed is a 90, you would need 450 points total.
94*2 is 188, and 97*2 is 194, so you already have 382. You would only need a 68% on the final to get an A!

If it happens to be a 93 (some high schools use this system), you would need 465 points above, and an 83% would be required to keep an A. But just remember (2 * 1st period + 2 * 2nd period + exam)/5.

I assume your marking periods are 40% of the grade each.

(.94+.97)/2=.955

So .955(.8)+x(.2)= .90 (I guess an A is 90 or above)

so you need a 68% or better on your final to get a 90% in the class.

if the average of 94% and 97% is 80% of your final grade then:

[(94 + 97)/2] *0.8 = 76.4

100-76.4 = 23.6

if i remember correctly you would need to get at least a 23.6 on your final to get an "A" in the class based on it being worth 20%
I could be wrong though, it's been a while since I had to do this. it would depends on whether it's just your test grades that are counted toward the final grade. in my experience teachers usually broke it up between homework, class participation, tests and attendance (tests holding a heavier weight)

you need a 68 assuming an A is 90-100. you need an 83 if an A is 93-100. and if its math you should fail :)
