problem is -a(x+y) + b(x+y) and i'm helpin a friend figure it out for this problem you have to factor it

Factor out the common (x+y) and you get:
(-a + b)(x + y)

But most people would put the b first to avoid a negative in front:
(b - a)(x + y)

Either answer is acceptable.
