San Antonio is a great city. If you've ever visited another urban area of Texas, you'll find that San Antonio is significantly more laid back than other cities. It is a large city, but it doesn't have the congested feel that you would experience in Houston, Dallas, or El Paso. The Riverwalk and the Alamo (a fort where 250 Texans stood up to thousands of Mexican soldiers during the Texas Revolution) are definitely recommended, although the Alamo has lost some of its grandeur, as part of it now contains a gift shop. Overall, it is a beautiful city with a lot to offer, enough that you can definitely make a trip out of it.

I agree, Gino's an idiot. San Antonio is great. My wife and I moved here after a vacation in 1998 because it is not only beautiful here, but fun. I don't know when you are planning on coming, in the spring and summer, Fiesta Texas Six Flags, and Sea World are both fun. The River Walk is a big tourist attraction. It has lots of bars, restaurants, hotels, and night clubs. There are rivers all over the place, meaning outdoor activities like: boating, water skiing, tubing, hiking, camping. We always have some events such as: concerts, Spurs basketball home games, and much more. Come check it out.

It's a great city to visit....you must do the following:
1. Dick's Last Resort (be sure to remember it's their job to be rude)
2. Go shopping at The Market
3. Eat at La Margarita's at the Market
4. Have dinner on the Riverwalk.
5. Visit the Alamo
6. Drink a hurricane at Pat O'Briens
7. Go to Howl at the Moon on the Riverwalk.

I've been living here for three and a half years. The Riverwalk is really bad now! The water is disgusting. But if you make a trip in the night, its actually very beautiful. But otherwise, I love it here! (Except for in the summer--it's TOO hot!)

It is not bad, as far as Texas cities go. Not worth making a trip to... but worth stopping at on your way to a destination.
