An FTP server is one that stores files...you are than able to access them through a program that is capable of FTP access.

Short for File Transfer Protocol, the protocol for exchanging files over the Internet. FTP works in the same way as HTTP for transferring Web pages from a server to a user's browser and SMTP for transferring electronic mail across the Internet in that, like these technologies, FTP uses the Internet's TCP/IP protocols to enable data transfer.

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol usually runs on port 21. Basically an FTP server is a system setup that hosts files over the internet, depending upon what kind of account you have, you may be able to upload(send) files to the server as well.

I use FileZilla (a simple search will turn this up) to access FTP servers. You can also use IE or FireFox just type ftp:// then the address of the server.

If you wish to setup a server the fine folks who make FileZilla the FTP client also make FileZilla Server. It allows people to setup a simple FTP server on their on PC.

Well ftp stands for file transfer protocol and has files on it that you can download, which at times requires authentication. You can use a specific software to download whatever it is that you want there are some good freeware softwares: filezillz, wsftp (windows) cyberduck(mac)

So again, a server (ftp server) will contain links that allow you to download files from it. Usually web developers use this to upload webfiles onto the webservers.

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol.

It's just an industry standard for transferring files across dissimilar networks. But can be used on systems on similar networks. used primarily to transfer files across the Internet.

For example: School A wants to transfer a file to School B and they are at different physical locations on different networks.
