All of a sudden I'm having trouble getting games to start. One game just brings me to a black screen, no cursor. Another one gives me the error message "can not open display, error code = 0 x c8660160". What gives? These are games that have worked in the past and I can't think of anything that I might have done to cause this.

You may have a virus. If you don't have a virus scanner- get one.
If this is not the case, try rebooting the computer. Then Defrag it.
If this doesn't work, try the other things listed here. Worse comes to worse, copy your game files and completely reinstall the OP system. It'll suck, but you'll have games

black screen and blue screen normally indicates computer lacking of computation or instability of operating system.
cannot open display error code, bla bla could usuaully be your CD/DVD error or even HDD error in most cases..
try cleaning your game CD/DVDs and play them again.....
when there's black screen with no cursor, i recommend u to check your hardware with game hardware requirements, some games today really demand big specs.

Probably missing Video card driver or corrupt file system. Try re installing the video card driver and installing the latest Direct X.

It might be a problem with your video card or the driver....you can try updating your driver with the latest patch if you haven't already.
