Leather jackets can be a great accessory if you wear them in a chic style. The whole Michael jackson "thriller" look, is sorry to say, horrible! The 80's is where it needs to stay! Maybe try a leather jacket that is a nice pleather material, no animal cruelty my love, and go for a style as in like peacoat. The big hair is also out! If you are gonna go for a perm, go for a softer looser curl. Or maybe try the straight look out for a change! Hope this helps you! I send my best wishes!
This is coming from me I am only 15 and I never had to go through the 80's style(thank god) but I am just giving an outsiders perspective!

not really sure what kind of leather jacket you are talking aout from the 80s. But leather is always in as far as I am concerned.
As far as the 80s as a decade of fashion, I lived through it the first time and would much rather leave the hyper color, ripped sweatshirts, leggings, leg warms, jazzercise, flourescent clothes i the past. They were ugly then and always will be. It was such a fashion disaster with the big shoulder pads in women's clothes that made you look like a football player.
Even the 70s had better fashion. Yikes!

They will never bring back a total decade, but 80's elements--along with 70's and 60's are in style and mixed with modern style. Leather jackets are classic pieces. They are not outdated. Sometimes it's more trendier to have a longer coat, sometimes a shorter coat, but it will always be around. I say stay away from fringe.

Big hair is more regional than time related...in the south with all the humidity, big hair is a given! Ha ha! I think with the leather jacket it depends on the cut of the coat - leather is still in, just depends on the style of the cut.
Fashion being out and in is so flakey....be yourself, be comfortable and be confident and you will shine in the midst of all the ones who have the same old hair style and are all wearing the same clothes! Viva la individual!

the 80s style is kind of back , but with a twist. check out instyle, marie claire, glamour magazines. big 80s look--skinny jeans, but updated with ballet flats. big hair is a no-no.
