30 minute head start gives a distance of: rt

r = rate 65 mph
t = time = (1/2) hr

--> 65/2 miles = 32.5 miles

The rate of catching up (T) is the difference between the speeds of the two cars.....68 mph and 65 mph, which is 3 mph.

Time to catch up is (T) = d/r

d = distance = 32.5 miles
r = rate = 3 mph

T = 10.83 hours to catch up.

Mulder gets a 65mi/hr*1/2 hr=32.5 mi head start.
Scully is driving 3 mi/hr faster so it will take

32.5mi/3mi/hr=10 5/6 hrs or 10 hrs 50 min to catch up.
9 AM + 10 hrs 50 min=7:50 PM.
