It's totally incredible how many people actually think they have talent but have none whatsoever. Maybe it's denial or maybe it's just a case of bad hearing !?!?!

They often get to be on tv. Most people just want the chance to be talked about it. It's kind of like getting to pick your 15 minutes of fame... or in this case, 30 seconds to 1 minute of fame.

Cheers,

TV exposure!
How many could say that they appeared in American Idol.

I think they may be convinced by those who work on the show to participate. Also, they may be actors. (Jerry Springer and many of the daytime talk shows use actors)

The show has a lot more to do with humiliating people than it does with showcasing talent.

For their 15 minutes of fame baby=P
Seriously, it's pathetic if you ask me. The absolute worse is when they can't accept the reality that they have zero talent and totally tone deaf.

most of them try out because they believe they're good and no one has the guts to tell them that they aren't good for fear that they'll be hurt. So they get hurt even more by Simon.
