I had an emergency section 13 years ago not for any health complicatoions..she was 6 weeks early and breech..she scored 10 on APGAR..I've since had 4 normal term babies by vbac and now the state where I live said it's the law once a section always a section....regardless of how long ago and how many normal deliveries I've had.

How can they do that? That's a bunch of crap! I didn't know your state can actually enforce such an insane concept! If you've had 4 term pregnancies with normal delivery I don't see how they can FORCE you into a section! OMG! A section cost more for the insurance companies, the recovery time is longer, the risk of complications increases! Babies are SUPPOSED to be born vaginally and forcing a woman to deliver through surgery is insane! I think that if everything is going well with your labor, there is NO need for you to have surgery!

If you have to, maybe you should consider a midwife or something along those lines.

I am in complete shock by what you've said. Good luck to you with every thing!

There is not one person out there that can force you to have a c-section. Let's say your baby was in the breech position and you wanted to have a vaginal delivery, they can not force you to have that c-section. You're having a normal pregnancy and you have had subsequent vag deliveries so there is no reason why they should be trying to inflict this on you.

You have the right to decline any medical treatment you want. It's your body your baby, you can deliver it anyway you like. The hospital, if they have recommended you have a c-section, will just make you sign a waiver saying that if you should choose not to have a c-section they can not be held responsible for any thing that may go wrong as a result.

Exercise your rights. Don't get talked into something you don't want to do unless of course your baby may be at risk. At which point you should maybe give a c-section a second thought.

Good Luck!

I can't believe that's a state law!! There's no way....Maybe an insurance company, I can see doing that, but not a State Law!! Total craziness!! My first was a csection delivery, but not because she or I was in any danger...I did attempt a VBAC the second time, and was unsuccessful, so I will never be allowed to try that again. But the fact that you have done it successfully by VBAC on 4 other occasions, I don't see how any right-minded practitioner can FORCE you to do a c-section against your will. If nothing else, have the baby in another state. But I don't believe that it can be forced. Good luck.

As I understand it, no state has a "no VBAC" law on the books, but there are MANY hospitals that no longer allow them.

Contact ICAN (the International Cesarean Awareness Network). They have resources available for women who are being forced or pressured into a repeat c-section. The national site can give you a local contact in your state who can help you with all the specifics that apply to you.

If all else fails, you could try a homebirth--although there is more than one state that has laws against midwife attended births outside a medical setting, and even against homebirths in general. It's ridiculous and demeaning that women are not allowed to make these decisions about our own bodies and the births of our own babies. Good luck. I hope you have the birth you want.

What state do you live in? That just seems rediculous to me; if your doctor told you that, I would research the state laws and maybe find a new doctor. If you have had 4 VBAC deliveries w/ out complications, I don't see why attempting a 5th would be a problem. I think someone is filling your head w/ lies............

No state can say how you can have your baby. You might want to consult a midwife. Also there is alot of info on the just because you had a c section once do i have to do it again... in the book "A thinking womans guide to a better birth" by Henci Goer. VERY helpful to me. Someone is giving you the run around because they dont want to take the time. Consult a midwife asap and read the chapters in that book. I promise it will make you feel better. Good Luck

1) I guarantee you it isn't a law.

2) Consider having your baby at home. You know your body and you know how it works. You will be fine.

3) Though technically they can not preform a c-section without your consent unless they get a court order you need to be prepared to defend yourself. You and your partener need to be prepared to call 911 and ask for police assistance and leave the hospital even when you are in labour. It has happened and once it has been done it is a little late.

My sister encountered that. There is nothing you can do, unless you move to another state. Several states have made this law because there have been many cases of infants and some moms dying from severe bleeding due to a uterus rupturing
along the old surgical site. This is very true of the older style where the uterus was cut along the top of it or straight down the middle. Most uterine incisions are done low down and horizontal, now. But there is still a large risk of a tear.
Once my sister had that explained to her, she was fine with the surgury. Better to be safe than die unexpectedly.
