We had no local taxes, so pay no attention to the answer above me. The war was paid for by donations of ammunition, guns, clothing, food, etc from the various states. France helped to a great extent. As for threats after the war, there were many. That is why we had the War of 1812. The British had a nasty habit of hyjacking our ships on the open sea.

Any way they could. Much of the militia used their own weapons out of their own pockets.
The French also supplied the army and gave them training.

The colonies were very profitable agriculturally and made a good amount of money. They had a good economy.

the same way they do it now taxes! Not everyone was for the war. the country still had to unite and build a constitution then agree on it. no easy task it didnt happen overnight.
