it sounds like "planning" - you should always start off with a plan. a poor plan can screw up the rest of the "work" so begin with a plan!

as it stands, l of you have good arguments, now let me purpose a philosophical argument in the reverse of this statement, to put simply how can the beginning be the most important part, if the end must justify the means. to look at it from there is to say the end is the most important part. but from the open understanding of a philosopher's mind, if the beginning and the end are the most important then what of the middle, the path to which you leave from the beginning and reach the end, is that not in turn the most important. so the work as a whole is the most important, for none part of work can exist without the other or it becomes, unfinished, not started, or never an existing idea in the first place

It means the foundation is the most important part of whatever you do. What you put in at the beginning will either see you through to the end, or leave you stranded in the middle.
They call the first block laid in a building the cornerstone for that very reason.
Hope that helped!

that can mean two things really . one . it can mean start as you continue to finish. that means start with a good attitude and with good effort.
two. it can mean to plan out how to accomplish the work. say building a house you don't just go to the lumber yard and buy a few boards no you go with blueprints or material list and find out the costs then go from there. .

To me it means that the "idea" phase of any project is crucial to its completion...if there's no idea - there's no project.
