I was in a very serious car accident. I was paralized from my waist down. They were able to put two rods in my back and basically weld the bones toghter. I am now able to walk with a walker,on same days I use a wheelchair. On top of this my wife cheated on me while I was in the hospitail. I had to deal with all of this on top of losing my wife . Now I can deceide If I want to get the rods removed from my back. This is all spinal cord stuff so its kinda scary. They remove the rods and I may regain alot of strenth to the point that I would be able to use just a cane. I will or may lose this tremoundus pain that I have? I could be able to regain flexabilty? These are all things I may regain. Negative, My spine could crush and I lolse all feeling and cant walk at all, next I could Die,next I could get an Infection. Those are the Major things. I have been through alot. I really dont have many people to help me with this . So give it a shot. Thanks

I just had disc surgery in my neck a couple months ago-- I remember all those worries well.
I am so sorry to hear about your wife. You deserve better than that.

As for the surgery, its kind of like playing the odds. What are the chances for success vs. the negative? Can you deal with it if things turn out badly? Is the chance worth it to you?
Ask your doc what he/she would recommend if his/her child were in the same position as you?
Get a 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinion. Check out a university/teaching hospital where the outcome in your favor might have higher odds.
Will you most likely be better off by having the surgery?

Only you can answer all those questions.
Its a tough one. Personally, if I had a good doc (and I do!), I would probably go for it if the odds were good.

Best of luck and I wish you well!

Thats a very tough issue my friend. I had pins in my hip before and they had to come out, I sort of relate to your problem. I think you need to live with the rods or put your trust in the Highest power and take the chance. It is a shame when reality deals these kinds of blows, but we will pray for you. Spinal injuries are serious, ask for a 2nd or 3rd opinion from Drs. I wish you the best.

Sorry to hear of your despair. Unfortunately, this is a decision you and only you can make. There are many benefits and many risks in everyday decisions we make. Odds are you will come thru this surgery improved or else they would not allow you to be a candidate for the surgery in the first place. Good luck.
