I have a little sister and she is always complaining about how she has never seen a shooting star so can anyone tell me when there will be a meteor shower so that I can show her one. Tell me what time, date, and places that we can see the shower. I just really want to show her something that she has never seen before.

There are frequently meteors, but you need to be patient. A dark location far from city lights is better, as is looking after midnight.

I recall looking for meteors during the shower in November from my back yard in the city. In half an hour of continuous looking I saw only one. The next week, I was out in the country with a telescope, not even looking for meteors, and I saw several by chance. They were all dim enough that I couldn't have seen them from the city.

So pick a good beginner level shower from the source, find a dark place in the country, and spend at least an hour in a reclining chair or laying on a blanket on the ground just staring at the sky and you should see some. Bundle up warm, or observe while in a sleeping bag. Nothing ruins a good meteor watch like getting cold!
