The sun is the closet star - the next closest star is Alpha Centauri which is 4.3 light years away. Pretty close in astronautical terms.

The closest star to the earth is the Sun. The next known closest star is Proxima Centauri at about 4 light-years. There may be a closer M-class dwarf but so far it has not been detected by observers.

Proxima Centauri is the closest star to us, though it may or may not be a third member of the Alpha Centauri multiple star system. The brightest star in our sky is Sirius which is only around 9 light years distant, which is why it appears so bright for a class A star. A vast majority of the stars we can see are within about 2000 light years of our solar system.

The closest star to Earth is Alpha Centauri, which is actually a set of triplets burning brightly about four light years away.

Say what? All the stars you see are at different distances. The closest is Proxima Centauri at like 4 light years or so... not including the sun of course...
