Try this one, it is GREAT!!!! "Those Who Hunt the Night" by Barbara Hambly.
It is an exceptionally good vampire yarn with an absolutely fresh take and no links whatsoever to Dracula and the Anne Rice epics. Hambly normally writes sci-fi/fantasy, but this book is not.
It is set in old London (Victorian era, I think, it's been a while....) and SOMEONE has been KILLING the vampires of London!!!! So what do they do?? The head vampire finds the best private investigator around to solve the crime for them---and takes his wife hostage to make sure he complies.....
Great who-done-it! Mystery and vampires at the same time. Great twist ending! Have fun, hope you like it.

For girls (it is hopelessly "chick lit") I recommend Twilight (and New Moon) by Stephenie Meyer. They present not only an impossible situation that seems real, but Twilight and New Moon have a unique mythology that seems far more logical. Not only that, but the characters are incredibly realistic and I always feel like I'm going to look up from the book and be staring right at the characters. I would encourage people to read this book, because I am not really a "vampire" person, but the author had never actually liked vampires, but a dream about the two central characters sparked a legacy!

Like someone else said...I wish I knew how old you are, but I will answer anyway. Laurell K. Hamilton, has a series out, I think 13, possibly 14 full novels. Just go to any book store, and get the Anita Blake series.
Shannon Drake is pretty good too. Ann Rice is great, but different than these authors, she follows a different set of vampire rules.

Try "Carmilla" by Joseph Sheridan LeFanu and "The Vampyr" by Pollidori. Both are novels published in the 1800s; "Carmilla" is about a lesbian vampire with a maks and "The Vampyr" about an aristocratic vampire.
Oh, also try "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova. This one treast the historical figure of Vlad Tepes as Dracula. The only setback is that the book is super long, but good none the less.

well there are the Anne Rice books. Interview with a vampire, The vampire lestat, and a bunch more. Also there are some books called Cirque Du Freak but they are kind of easier younger books. Also there are a lot of online fan fiction. Just type in Vampire fan fiction. Frankly Anne Rice's Interview with a vampire is my all time favorite vampire book.

Hey, I'm not sure how old you are....but some good ones aimed at adults are: Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice, and I'm almost finished reading "Midnight Blue" by Nancy A. Collins. Pretty graphic, but awesome!
