Normandy Invasion June 6th, 1944

Pearl Harbor December 7th,1941

We probably wouldn't have had a Normandy invasion if there was not a Pearl Harbor. Maybe.

Prior to Pearl Harbor there were some American volunteers in action in the Royal (British) Air Force. There were also American pilots flying cargo planes and fighters in China against the Japanese. But this was all unofficial.

i do not imagine u.s. gained the conflict for us, it truly is a few distance from being an common equation. We were being presented by the human beings for it sluggish and had lots of yankee pilots flying with us from the united kingdom previously the U. S. formally joined in. We held the line and destroyed the Luftwaffe at a key aspect besides the undeniable fact that. no longer lengthy after that the Germans made a tremendous tactical mistake by invading Russia, and on the incorrect time of three hundred and sixty 5 days too. They tried to go in many times. Nazi Europe was called "Fortress Europe" because it was so difficult to invade. The British, with American aid, tried to infiltrate from Italy and had difficulty.
Finally, on June 6th, 1944, after years of planning and a huge effort of weapons, transport, leaders and soldiers did they finally conduct the invasion of Normandy, code named Operation Overlord on one of the least secure spots on the German occupied French Coast. They were aided by British, Canadians, Belgians, Austrailians, New Zealanders and many behind the German lines but still suffered a great number of casualties. Still, it was a success and Europe was broken into.
Almost a year later Berlin was invaded by the Allies, mainly the Soviet Red Army, which ended the Nazi reign.

Germany did not declare war on the U.S. until AFTER Pearl Harbour. In 1942 the U.S. 8th Air Force dropped 1, 561 tons of bombs on Germany. As these were Americans pilots flying "into Europe" to drop their bombs on Germany, you may want to consider this answer and ignore the D-day answers...Tell your father he is right.

American pilots went over to England around 1939 -1940 to fly for the British since Roosevelt would not declare war on Germany or Italy. Once America did declare war on Germany in 1941, these pilots were allowed to fly American planes and they never lost their American citizenship. It was a great boon for England for which they were very thankful. God Bless you.

It wasn't before Pearl Harbor, the Isolationists (which Roosevelt wasn't one of them) were doing their best to keep America to itself while Europe came apart. That certainly didn't stop the arms trade that was going on with Russian and Great Britain, as that wasn't exactly frowned upon (truth be told, we sold different things to the Germans too).
