The train needs to travel

2 + 1/2 = 5/2 miles from the time the front of the train enters the tunnel until the end of the train emerges from it.

time = distance/rate = (5/2 miles) / (50 miles/hr)
= 1/20 hour = 3 minutes

Time for the rear of the train to emerge from the tunnel is 2:03 pm.
