The issue for the producers and sponsors of these "reality" programs is NOT whether they help our society or not, or whether they will give bad examples to our kids or not. The issue for them is whether it brings them more money and higher ratings. As long as we have mindless, brainless, lazy morons watching tv, they'll keep producing such crapp. God Bless you.

Sure most reality shows are a waste air time but they are also entertaining or else they would not be broadcast. Personally I think there are some good reality shows on TV like: American Idol, Amazing Race and Survivor. Stupid shows include: that Flavor of Love nonsense and I love New York

I'll answer this question, assuming "they" is the Channel that has the reality TV series.
They do this because sadly, America isn't always into what really is the best thing. America is addicted to things, which can be really stupid at times. But this, this is good, for "they" profit greatly from these, because advertisers know that America likes them, and they pay big bucks to get their advertisements in during commercial breaks. "They" like the money, and therefore they keep these shows going.

I agree. Whoever said they like them because they show how people would act in real life is far off. These shows are completely staged and are anything but reality. I think sitcoms are more realistic. The thing is, these shows get very high ratings. Apparently many people can't get enough of them.

They won't stop making "reality" t.v. becuase that's what people want to see...the ratings of the shows prove this. Everyone knows that it's not true "reality" however, they enjoy living vicariously through other people. That what reality shows and television is for. They allow people to experience something that isn't the norm. Television as well as movies serve as an oulet for people to express their desire to do something that differs from the norm.

They're running out of ideas,so they digging to the bottom of the barrel.
With this stupid political correctness, the t.v bosses daren't show half the programs that they've got stored in their vaults.
Myself and my children don't watch any of that rubbish,as it's all too `staged` and nothing happens like it in the real world.

As cheap and tacky as these shows are, they are very important to expose the truths about today's society.
This years celebrity big brother is a prime example.
Anyone with half a brain knows that there are closet racists on every corner of our streets, And big brother is helping to expose that.

I'm an actress, and those reality shows cut our work in half. I hate them for that reason. For those of you who think those reality shows are people acting real... you are gullible. They choose what to edit in order to askew the way you see people and they take direction to exaggerate an unsavory behavior to stay on the show longer.

a lot of people watch these kind of shows. the ratings are high, that why they keep making them. i don't like reality shows though. you just see people get humiliated and their dreams get crushed. wonder what happens to the self-esteem of losing contestants...
