If she is stopped before the Grapevine because of the show, she will have to backtrack down I-5 and cut over from Newhall to Ventura to Highway 101 and go North up the coast. It goes through Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo, and Atascadero. From there, she can continue on 101, or go back over to Interstate 5, dependng on her final destination.

If she wishes to continue on Highway 101, she will go north through Paso Robles, Salinas, to Monterey,.

I think there are a couple of pull-offs going up the road to the Grapevine, and rest stops going back down. They should be safe with other tourists and travelers who are blocked along with her. It depends on how far she wants to travel before resting.

Good luck,

John B.

Oh my goodness, why on earth would she have taken 5 up to monterey? that is the most round about way to go. The best way is up 101 through santa barbara from 101. If possible, I would recommend that your daughter go back to LA, stay some where there over night and then head up the 405 to 101 and then go the coast route. If she's on the button willow/north side, I believe up kind of near bakersfield, you can cut across on highway 46 to Paso Robles and then take 101 north. Depending on where she is on the high way, there are hotels near six flags and up kind of near the summit. Try Santa Clarita, Simi VAlley or Burbank.

In the future, your daughter to not ever take 5 to Monterey. Total waste of time and totally the wrong direction. It is about 20 miles further, but about the same time wise and you never have to worry about the road closing.
