some do
some don't

old people are just like young people
truth is, how you are young, is how you'll be old:
happy...a jerk...active...mean-tongued...inquisitive...secretive...

the real issue of aging
is getting sick....
all studies show
that as you age, you get better
--wiser, more relaxed, smarter, more accepting, more daring and willing to try new things, less controlling, less prejudice

think of old people you know
not what you've HEARD about old people
("old" isn't a bad word, it's just a fact...we get older--if we're lucky)
(like "gay" isn't a bad word...it's only what you think of it)

old people don't suddenly become a different personality
when they reach a "certain age".
if you want to be a great old person, you'd better plan on being a great young person...and a great middle person.

sickness...is the bugaboo
in this equation
old = good

a generation or so ago,
old people could "retire"
because they had a 3-legged stool of support: social security, savings, pension.
today's economy has kicked one (or more) legs of the stool out from under them, so older people can no longer "expect" to retire at a pre-planned age.
some are happy for it. some are not.
--especially those who:
1) are sick...and our health care system is hurtful...read: prohibitively expensive...for them; and,
2) who put off fun and happiness so they could get ahead and earnearnearn

yet, several generations ago, our forefathers & mothers didn't know from retirement. they lived in extended family settings and were always active and productive members of the family unit. a happiness for everyone involved.
of course, the elders were respected and honored...not worked to death.

if you see old people who are cheerful in their endeavors, be they employment or play, cheer them on, son.
and hope someone will be around to do the same for you.
(and that YOU'LL be around to be so cheered...and healthy)

cheers!

I'm sure they don't The government has made total chaos out of Social Security and the cost of prescriptions on top of that makes it near impossible to survive.

no offense to old people but well some don't have anything else to do. like i know this one lady who has a good life but she hates going to her home for some reason so she is always at work.

older people grew up during a time when people really worked ,,worked at their job,,worked at their families ,,they have a sense of great responsibility,,plus they could use the money to supplement plus working keeps the body and mind young....

Huh? Who told you that? I'm retiring this summer. The most ambition I may have after that is to be a "greeter" at Wal-Mart, only if I can have a chair.

Why does it just have to be old people. I love my job and going to it. In fact I miss it when I am not there.
