It is different. But YOU have the right to determine what is offensive to YOU, and expect others to honor your wishes--to respect you--when they speak to you. Best of luck.

I think the word has been exploited due to it's use in
rap music. Rap music was officially derived from
the hood. A subculture. The terms used in this cul-
ture wasn' t meant to be derogatory when interchanged
by the people of the community.Similar to other cultures
who make derogatory terms to others in gesture to others.
These words were never taken offensive within the sub-
culture. Only when it is used by outsider's it becomes
offensive. The offense is due to the use of the words.
Without being in the subculture you mock the true meaning of the word, because you have not lived it. It's
not different than a Mexican/Hispanic calling his fellow
Mexican broher Esse, or an Italian calling his fellow
Italian brother a Dago or Ginni, A polish man calling
his Polish brother a Pollock. A girl calling another friend
a female dog/******, etc. There's a bond there that
I don't have with these groups and it's out of place for me
to use these terms toward these individuals. It's not
my place to violate the brother or sisterhood of these
groups. Yet, for reasons due to racism some feel compelled that they must say interject their opinions
or ideology into the different segments of African American subculture. Certain groups and they know
who they are feel that they have the right to critic cer-
tain ethnic groups yet overlook the same actions in
others. This biased mentallity is hardly deserving the
satisfaction of even making a comment.

N!gger is the way people use to say it a long time ago, n!gga is what most rappers use in their lyrics. It's basically the same thing.

"Yep" is right. I agree with what he said on an open cross culture level.
"Yep" said:
They are different....we talked about it in my college classes....N!gger is the racial term that white people say when they want to racially slur blacks....N!gga is the term blacks themselves use as part of their culture and is accepted, but only if another black person says it to them...

He or she is right.

Here's what I have noticed and several black friends have admitted to me: the first one is definitely a racial slur used by non-blacks against blacks - the second one is a proprietary one used by some blacks to exclude (and tick off) whites. As in, "We can say this to each other, but you'd better not say it to one of us!"

Face it, they are the same thing. The swear one was converted over to the other one to mock the accent of an african.
