I don't know for sure, but I suspect that they do...I know that in my office...working for a medical practice of 5 specialty surgeons, all doctors that practice in the area are treated for no out of of pocket expense, and that also includes their families. In other words..insurance only. This also the case in my office for myself and my family, but that only applies to treatment in my own office. If I have surgery, I do not have to pay a doctor that I work for, but I do have to pay the hospital operating room charges. I think this is very common practice.

I do not think that doctors get discounts in hospitals but they do get accommodations such as asking other doctors for other favors, maybe getting tests results back for a pt faster etc. When you ask other doctors for favors you can always call in the favor you need from that doctor but I don't think a discount at a hospital.

Discounts no, better treatment? Probably. I know I work for private practice and my docs dont get a deal at the hospitals. In other Dr's offices yes, they get a deal usually. They consider it professional courtesy.

Although it would be nice, no, not usually. They have health insurance just like the rest of us. They may get fantastic insurance coverage through the hospital they work for, but that's about the extent of it.
