Ok...i jst got promoted to department manager recently. Bad timing cause the people in there are incompetant. But the money is supposed to be good and its a stepping stone to zone manager which pays a whole lot. My mentor, larry was a zone manager up for $30,000 bonus in a few weeks but got fired yesterday for b.s. I' applied to another job online and have an interview on Monday Jan 22. it pays well but not as much as Zone manager position. what should i do? I could keep my present job, hopefully move up to where the real money but be scared of getting fired or take safer job? Also, thinking of moving closer to work. Present job would mean moving to Union, N.J. Other job is closer to where i live now.

If the other job has a decent salary and is closer to home, take it if it's offered to you! Moving is a hassle. Being close to home is such a luxury. You will save a lot of time, wear and tear on your car, and not have to spend as much on gas.

Of course you would be giving up any vestment or tenure you currently have but if there is a good chance you could get fired over something silly then why risk it?

There are probably opportunities to be promoted at the new job as well.
