Without a picture or a better description of the markings on the back, it is all but impossible to give you a definitive answer. "Circassian walnut" is wood that comes from the Black Sea region of Europe. It is still used to make furniture in the area and is sometimes imported by furniture makers in the USA. One such company in Evansville, Indiana made furniture using this wood.
If you type the phrase "circassian and furniture" (do not include the quotation marks) in the Yahoo search box, you will come up with 9,860 results. I looked at some of the first 20 results and found all kinds of interesting information. I recommend that you do the same search and start exploring. In the end, the more you know, the less likely you are to be cheated by an unscrupulous antique dealer or buyer. I am guessing that you will get some pretty definitive information fairly quickly.
Good luck with your search for information.

what is "circassian"? what type of print is it? is it burnt into the wood? on a metal plaque? dove-tailing does not neccessarily make it from that old of a period. there are other things you can look at to authenticate its age, but only a qualified antique appraiser can do this. if it truly is from 1588, it will be very valuable, especially if its in good condition.

You are probably freaking rich! Get it checked out by a antique dealer. Go to Circassian Antiques on the net. if its authentic you are looking at $25,000 + check it out.

most likely it is a date code or product code of some sort but it sounds like it is from the victorian era. get a dealer to look at it to be sure, but it's definately valuable if it is even in good-fair condition

OOoooh, take it to a dealer or get an antique dealer to come to you. Could be valuable.
Try this site and you can find the peices. They are expensive.
