Is it still normal for 10-week old babies to have spastic movements? My daughter still swings her arms around and hits herself quite a bit. And, she kicks her legs like crazy (mostly when she's tired). She is learning how to hold toys, etc, so I'm seeing progress and I think it's normal but I just wanted to make sure the other babies her age were doing the same thing...

Yes, they are still not able to fully control their movements. Her movements should get smoother in a few more weeks. It takes some time though.

Yes! This is absolutely normal! My daughter (8 weeks) does this a lot too. In fact, she is constantly wearing mittens to avoid her nails scratching the sensitive skin on her face.

My daughter does it in her sleep as well, which is another good reason why babies should be swaddled. If she isn't swaddled, your daughter may wake herself by her arms moving around. She still has no control over her movements, this will improve gradually in the coming weeks. You've mentioned that she reaches for her toys, this means that she is already gaining some coordination over her movements.

yes it is. And my favorite is the Moro or the startle reflex. It is when the baby hears a sound or feels a sudden movement and their hands flail then go back slowly to their chest. It is just so sweet like they are hugging them self. You baby is exercising and learning she can move different things. Wait a few weeks she'll realize that it draws attention and she will do it more. Good luck!
