I have some secrets that I've been keeping from my classmates. When I was very young, my mother died so it was just me and my dad for awhile. Then my dad started doing drugs and was having problems raising me, so my aunt and uncle and cousin adopted me. I just told my classmates today because it seemed like the right time. Here's what happened:
Some guys that are friends w/ my brother (who's really my cousin) just found out that I was his sister today, and they
were shocked because we don't look ANYTHING alike. So I told them that I was his adopted sister and I told them the story and now I really regret it. I feel like I made everyone feel very uncomfortable and that they have to feel sorry for me. My best friend says that I had to say it sometime and that seemed like a good time and that I shouldn't feel bad about it, but I need more opinions. From your point of view, if you were those people I told, how would you have felt? Did I make the right decision telling them then?

Honey I'm not sure why you chose to share such a personal thing with class mates, but that was up to you. Lots of children live in very bad abusive situations. A family is not formed because 2 people can make a baby. I know that you have loving parents regardless if they are your aunt & uncle or where total strangers that adopted you. My husband & I have 3 biological children none of our children look alike or act alike either. The world is a better place for unique people.
Hold your head high you should be proud of your family no matter what it took to form it. Only the Best to you

It's ok to tell some friends, but not to make a big announcement to the whole class. Or you can tell them you're adopted, but without giving details.

well to be honest i would feel sorry for you.but something similar happened to my friend[she told everyone her twin sister died when they were just born]and i think she felt the same as you.so i told her how she felt and she just felt sad.you should talk to your friends and let out the what you feel inside.after a few days they will get over it and everything would be okay.best of luck!!

If you wanted to tell them its you choice. But seriously telling someone that they dont look anything alike is rude.
