The rating of the fixture is simply to limit the current that you put on it. If you have a fluorescent bulb that is drawing less current (32W) than the rating of the fixture (60W), there is no problem. It will not shorten the life of the bulb or fixture, and it will be perfectly safe.

A 60 watt fixture can handle a 32 watt bulb just fine. The 120 rating is the amount of light compared to a conventional bulb, not how much power it draws.

i say yes it's safe. i have at least 10 such bulbs in my house. so long as that second number doesn't exceed the 60 watts it should be fine. you're right abut the output not being the same. (brightness) i have a lot of the 100 fluorescent bulbs that only have an output of about 20 to 23 watts. the wattage is more of a capacity that the wire current shouldn't exceed. higher wattage (incandescent) can and has melted those wires. i speak from experience. 26 watts should be fine. after plugging in the unit and turning it on, all you have to do is feel the wire where it's plugged in for heat. I'm sure it's o.k. good luck to ya

Yes. The rating there is mostly a matter of how much heat the fixture can take before it melts. A 32 watt flourescent bulb puts out hardly any heat so it should be fine.

you can use it in that fixture but it will definitely shorten the life of the fixture. a 60watt bulb draws 60 watts and gives off 60watts. a 120 flourescent watt will draw 32 but will give off 120 watts. just something to think about.

I think you may be referring to a 32 W fluorescent bulb that is equivalent to a 120W incandescent bulb. In this case the answer is definitely yes because the actual power consumed is 32W, much less than the recommended 60W maximum power.
