I ran a regression that proves level of education was a significant variable in Bush-Cheney versus Kerry-Edwards support in the 2004 Presidential Election.
Less education meant more Bush-Cheney support. 41% of the variance explained by level of education. So, it's not THE determining factor.
Still, 41% is pretty good. If I could add religious leaning, and proximity to urban areas, I bet I could get a real good model going.
Anyway, why do you think this is?
Check out my blog for the data. I think you can get to it through the 360 link then blog, etc. Election data comes from the Federal Election Board, and Education by State from the Census Bureau.
As to the title of the question – there is a link between less education and less intelligence, because less intelligent people don’t do as well in school and generally can’t wait to get out.

Max -- no, just that education is a variable in predicting your vote. It doesn't decide it outright. For example, Utah is a highly educated state, comparatively. But, people from Utah tend to vote Bush-Cheney, probably because conservative religious values also load high.
The data does prove that intelligence is related to how you vote, albeit indirectly through leve of education.

Arctic chick -- check the data. Data does not lie. Statistics can be a cold shower.

Dragonfly, if that's true you would have the highest IQ ever measured. It would put you in league with Sir Isaac Newton and folks like that. So, maybe you are working on the unified theory of Physics or something?

Dragonfly -- why don't you put them thar IQ points to use on my data and my regression? Surely, a super-genius like you knows how to run a simple regression. Pull the data from my blog, or search it out on the 'Net, as you like. Maybe you already have the data memorized with that IQ of yours. You should be debating Chomsky right now.

Convinced -- care to elaborate? Why don't you look at the data, then decide how stupid it is? I'm afraid it is a valid result, Coltraine.

Hey man, it's not fair to say dumb people vote for Bush. I think it's the drool flowing from their mouth that short circuits the voting machine and registers another vote for Bush (or maybe it was having their finger up their nose while voting).

Question is not loaded however "the asker" might good be! The query is framed in order to not permit a differing opinion or provide perspectives instead of the only questor states. Bush is sensible adequate to have the ones no longer as sensible attempt to turn out how sensible he's. Those smarter than Bush are smarting beneath a ruling "coup" organization who had been smarter than they and extra boodthirsty within the video games of politics. Bush is solely luckier than the individuals who help him, as he's going to stroll away with vigour status and glory at the same time they play mindgames and consider they subject within the scheme of matters.

I voted for Bush because Kerry would have been worse. Seeing Kerry's comments on the military and his actions after the election, I'm happy with my choice. I have a BA and finished at the top of my class along with being the member of two honor societies; those that I know of that voted for Kerry had not even taken one college course. I'm not saying that is the case for everyone because I'm smart enough to know that would be wrong. It depends on where you are looking and if you are looking for a biased answer you will find one.
290 IQ? Higher than Einstein, higher than most philosophers? Great job, by the way it's they're... not there. LOL. Ha, if you people going around saying Bush supporters are dumb would just take a hard look in the mirror. Those of us that voted for Bush don't need to say a word, you guys are doing a great job!

A crude way of stating that in your question, however, less educated people tend to be more "religious fanatics", especially in the rural south where I spent my teenage years. It is easy to manipulate them by showing them a picture of the candidate praying and saying, "He's the Christian choice." I am being extremely brief and could go on and on about ignorant people, but I won't. I will just say that, yes, you are right and your study would probably show that more people in rural areas voted for Bush-Cheney.
Oh yeah, it also looks like you just hit a nerve with some people. You'll be called some ****'d word before the end of the night.

I dont know if I understand you. Are you saying that every single individual that voted for Bush/Cheney must be stupid and every single individual that voted Kerry/Gore was smart?? That sounds somewhat like a sweeping generalization from a liberal type person who is all about accepting diversity in thought and policy.

Actually, according to "Party Politics in America" (10th Ed; page 129), "People with lower incomes and less education are more likely to call themselves Democrats than Republicans. In addition, Democrats are more likely to identify themselves a working rather than middle class."

Only dumb people could vote for Bush-Cheney so therefore, they obviously weren't educated. The only textbooks they ever laid their eyes on was the bible and even then, that was read to them. Not to mention, most graduate degrees belong to Democrats.

Study data all you want, but I'm guessing the people who voted for Bush/Cheney did so because O'Reilly, Limbaugh, and Fox news told them too.
