That's what they said-and considering it was the first video to be played on MTV I guess they could be right!

Yes. Well, actually, MTV killed the careers of some less attractive/ not visually appealing radio stars.
But, on the flipside, video also brought to life the careers of Madonna, Cindy Lauper, Prince, and Michael Jackson's Beat It revived his career.... Remember all the Madonna wanna be's with crosses and bows in their hair (ugh!) or the Guys that wore only one white glove (I hope you're old enough to remember, I am :-)
Anyway, interesting question....and trying to get Video Killed the Radio Star out of my head is like trying to get rid of "It's a Small World". Thanks...

Yes, definitely, I watched something on VH1 over Christmas about some female singers who were overweight. Their songs were hits, but when they did music video, they would not allow them to be in them. They got skinny substitutes.....Hello, i thought those videos were to be about the music. These poor ladies got screwed.

You are right. Some songs to lend themselves to video, some of the videos I have seen are awful...they are approaching pornography. I remember seeing the Lionel Ritchie video for Hooked on a Feeling, Dancing on the ceilin (I think that was the name of the song)...it was awesome, it enhanced the song. Other times I have seen video which were so awful, I no longer wanted to hear the song.

I want to hear listen to music for it's sound, not it's video adaptability.

Yes defenitely! Music is so bland now compared to the way it was back then. I am not just talking style either. These kids seem to get their fame handed to them if they catch a break and they are instant stars.

yes. even videos are taking over mp3 players now. Musics just isn't music now without a visual. It's sad.
