E-mail is a great resource, but don't expect it to do all your work for you. I'd suggest visiting (IN PERSON) with your professor and discussing why you feel you did poorly in the class and specifically how you plan to change your behavior in the next term. You should also visit your Records and Registration office and speak with someone regarding policy on retaking classes. Realize that that may only be the 1st stop, as you could be sent to the history dept chair or dean's office for more clarification. The world is your oyster, but you've got to get out from behind this damn screen!

Can you take the class from another prof? There is a chance that your first prof didn't see your first e-mail, so you could try again, or do a neatly typed snail mail, but if you purport to be a history major and history buff and failed the course, maybe she's disgusted with you. Try to contact her by snail mail in a dignified manner, but my best advice is to take the class with another prof.

welcome to macdonalds. can i please take your order?

sorry, i wasnt very helpful there was I? My apologies. bad day. i failed a class at uni too, so i know that it does suck. I would go see the professor personally and chat to her about it. explain what went wrong, what you are prepared to do to fix it, and take along an action plan with you. she will be impressed that you are serious about this and that you are taking this as a wake up call.

Good luck
