It is curious and it seems to come from that time in the US when people were encouraged to retreat into races and ethnic groups as opposed to trying to find common ground. In the era of political correctness you are not even allowed to ask such a question without being accused of being a racist. I don't know of any holidays that are exclusively white or asian or hispanic. Hispanics are the larest minority but seem to melt into the mainstream and you can see the influences of their cultures in the overall culture in the arts, the music, the language, food and in education. When Kwanzaa was announced it was to be a holiday just for blacks to celebrate and to withdraw from the mainstream. It is uncomfortable sometimes when people call it a made up holiday but it does seem to be that. I was told in my demographics class in college that in the US, German Americans are the largest ethnic group and not far behind Hispanics but then why do we not have German holidays. There is Octoberfest which is held in some communities but it does not rise, nor pretend to rival Christmas. Find peace and common ground is something that we liberals/Baby Boomers sought with the Civil Rights movement and electing social justice oriented leaders (mostly Dems) but what we have done was create an idea that it is better to retreat into small groups and mistrust each other. To be politically correct we see celebrities wishing people a Merry Christmas and Happy Kwanzaa. Why do they not add other ethnic holidays to the list and so in order to wish anyone a happy holiday you have to list them all? Political correctness has played a role in dividing peoples and giving credibility to people who hate as opposed to people who wish to embrace all of us.
