Do you think it would be tough to stay working throughout the whole pregnancy as a cashier...which includes standing for 8 hours at the most and lifting a few heavy things...such as 24 packs of bottled water.
What would be the hardships? If a person usually works 6-8 hour shifts, do you think she should request fewer hours?

I am a nurse and worked up until 8 months pregnant, I didn't get to sit down for 8-10 hours either and was constantly running around on my feet. I'd come home and my ankles and feet were extremely swollen and they hurt. If you choose to continue working, work less hours and ask your employer if you can sit on a stool...they should be understanding if you are pregnant.

I worked as a cashier at Walmart while is was pregnant with my second child. The doctor said it was totally ok but to take frequent breaks maybe like sitting on a bench for a few minutes to take to pressure off your ankle in the latter months. Well when I was 6 months pregnant i started spotting and he made me(threaten to put me in the hospital with bathroom privileges only) stop working. Found out the placenta was ripping away from my uterus.Scary. But in an uneventful pregnancy i would think it is okay to work up to the end of the pregnancy. Good Luck!

The key is to work only as much as you feel able... don't push yourself. If you can tolerate standing with lower back support (prop one leg on a foot stool, lift only what you're comfortable lifting and no more) you can work up until you're due. You may need a doctor's note in order to have reduced hours or limit your responsibilities, but most employers will accomodate you. It's easier for them to make the changes to keep you working than it is to hire someone else because you cannot fulfill the duties they ask of you.

Its very rough standing on your feet all day while pregnant. I worked as a cashier until my 8th month of pregnancy then I had to be put on maternity leave because the standing was making me dialate. I would recommend less hours or going on maternity leave.

alot of people work during pregnancy, at factories, grocery stores, walmart, you name it. it should be fine just talk to your boss about maybe taking an extra break if needed. and the heavy lifting thing the wieght limit is usually 25 pounds. and i dont think water weighs that much so you should be fine.

The standing wouldn't be a problem if you wore some good support hose, but the lifting wouldn't be good for you.
