I see almost everyone at school flipping their cell phones open all day, and they text in class. I have a cell phone, nothing fancy, just a plain LG 3200, which is good enough for me. Text my dad;s cell instead of calling him, and I can call 911 if I need to. Everyone else has the real crazy RAZR's, Chocolates, and the Ericssons and everything else. The camera phones and MP3 phones. I have a plain one because I have a PSP, laptop, and camcorder already, so I'm good to go. I just leave my cell phone in my pocket, power off. I feel retarded when I flip it open in the hallway, even if I'm jist checking the time. I'm getting sick of seeing everyone with cell phones. I don't know why, it's not jealousy or envy, just getting sick of the sight of cell phones everywhere. What's your opinion on this one?

-nobody - thanks for your answer, but I'm not missing anything. I have wireless internet on my laptop, I also have a camcorder and bluetooth. Everything a new phone or PDA can do, I can do... just more electronics to tote around.

Cell phones are a major form of communication for people. We now live in a world where people travel far and for extended periods of time- and need to talk to others often. Either for work or a social life, it's the new norm. People no longer walk down the block to go to school, or drive a few blocks away to work untill 5pm. People have to manage so much more in the same amount of time, over greater distance. People like to have their phone handy with all it's gadgets to help them in daily things.

This, I do not find annoying.
Though, If I were in school right now- chance are I would agree with you. I think that most students just use their phone for play and distraction. That's pretty lame, and it would annoy me too.

But in the functioning world, people like my husband who travels all the time and uses his phone frequently to keep in touch with me, and conduct conference calls why he is away from the office are using the phone for it's intent. And I don't think that there is anything annoying about that, rather, that it's very helpfull. And it that sense, we could not live without it.

I have no problem with the law requiring a Blue Tooth ear device. Three times last summer I was forced off the road by someone that drifted into oncoming traffic while talking on their cells. One time I had my daughter with me. We almost flipped the car because the ditch on my side of the road was very steep. After the third time I contacted my State Represenative for our disctrict and asked him to consider introducing such a bill. He promised to do so but in the end this state ended up passing a 1% sales tax increase to help lower property taxes. I won't give up though, there is always next year. One of the responsibilities of my job is the ability to multi-task. While in my car I feel my job is to pay attention to the job at hand.....driving and watching out for the other driver. People get focused on who they are talking to and it's beyond me to understand how they can possibly handle a 1+ ton potential weapon while their attention is on holding a cell/texting while driving.

I'm just sick of people thinking I want to hear about their cell phones all the time. Or at all. So i'm right with you♥

They started out pretty much as a convenience, but lately, they've just turned into a nuisance. I really only carry mine for an emergency or just the occasional call. I can't stand those people who turn they're phones on ALL THE TIME and practically live on them! It's getting out of hand...fast!

I think they're fine to have for an emergency situation. I just don't understand why people have to have them attached to their ear while they drive, shop, eat at a restaurant or anywhere else in public. What do these people have to talk about all the time????

NO one should have a phone at school PERIOD. there are adults there or they should have emergency phones in the school that lead to 911 in case something happens in the school. I grew up with NO cell phone in any household and we lived.

I think materialism is ruining the younger generation, no offense guys

Get with it. You don't know what you're missing. I suggest a Treo 650 if you want a cheap PDA phone. You can e-mail with it and have a blast. It is wonderful for organizing also (task list, calender, reminders, phone #s, etc.)

And let's not forget about bluetooth.

For me it's a necessity! But kids nowadays are so materialistic and you can't blame them if they have rich parents to support their whims.

Don't mind them and just be cool & simple.
