I'm writing a romance about two graduating high schoolers and I was wondering usually how long is it in a relationship before proposing.

Until they feel they're ready. They're in love, and have jobs, and are ready to live on their own.

depending on what kind of a story you are writing. If you want a hopelessly romantic novel I would propose right off the bat, If you want a more realistic novel dont even have him propose untill after they meet the parents,or if you want a white trash novel you can have the father come out with a shotgun after finding out that his daughter is pregnant and force the man to marry his daughter.... hehe

There really isn't a time when people propose. It happens when it feels right. I have known people who got married after a couple months and I have known people who have been together for 7 years and never got married. All depends on their situation...same college different college any college....

Nowadays never. He talks her into moving in with him, then in 5 years she will write to Dear Abby wondering why he wont marry her because she is too dumb to figure out hes getting everything he wants already and has no reason to propose.

Since coming out of high school, I would say about 2-3 years.

a few years, (sorry to sound cheesy, but) long enough t o know that you are right for eachother. If you rush into something and you have kids, then BANG you get a divorce because you dont like each other after all, think of the hardships the kids would have to go through because of it.

In my opinion 2 -4 years. That gives you time to get to know the people and start a life before getting committed to one guy and one thing.

AT least 1 year, 2 is even better. we went 5 years before getting engaged and learned more about each others lil habits etc......if you can put up with anyone for 5 years....you will have a good shot at making it work!

there is no time limit when it feels right. my husband asked me to marry him 3 days after i met him i said yes, one year later we got married and have been married for just about 21 years. mind you i was 20 and he was 24 when we got married, not right out of highschool
i would not advise anyone coming out of highschool to propose to someone regardless how you felt about each other.
