I was accepted to Texas A&M University in their Computer Science program. The reason I don't go to a specialized art school is because I am going to join the AirForce ROTC and do athletics in college, hence A&M offers those three areas. Hence, my question is, would an advertising firm or web design company consider a B.S. Degree in Computer Science as an appropriate qualification to be a specialist in web design and computer graphics. Obviously you need a portfolio and knowledge and use of the industry standard of the types of programs that are used, but, this question is more directed towards the education aspect of my career choice?

I think it would help, but you would want to verify this with some of the companies you wish to work for when you graudate. I'm sure these companies would definatly respond to your inquiries.

Also, make sure you get into any internship or work study program that may be available, so you can gain that valuable on the job experience.

A third suggestion is to get an on campus job with Texas A&M's IT department.

Good Luck, and study hard.

My opinion....

The BS in Computer Science will definetively help, but reality check is that nowadays, the firms are interested in kids coming out of smaller (aka community colleges) schools that concentrate in those areas like DeVry, ITT, Valencia ect... with the degree you will get the basic tools and you will be able to learn Web Design and GUI design on your own and then compliment with short courses and seminars. Some bigger Universities are adding now courses that are more agrressive towards these areas as they are loosing too many candidates to the Community Colleges. The education in big universities is way more traditional, this areas you seek are progressive and actual, sometime University professor can be a bit behind in the times.

This is just my opinion....

convinced, i imagine so. you may continuously take optionally available preparation like website layout or laptop snap shots. you may want to intern at an internet site layout organisation. there is programming keen on designing an internet site. the front end is the layout and the lower back end is the programming. when you're experienced at both with a level you'd be an staggering asset. having said that you'll continuously change your ideas and develop right into a laptop programmer and then artwork for Microsoft.
