About 50% of high school students polled said they planned to attend college. However, registration rates show that just 35% of high school graduates actually enrolled in college following graduation. And, only 25% of the adult population actually holds a college degree. So, there are many answers, but the one you're looking for is probably the 35% figure (goes to college) rather than the completion rate (25%).

It depends on a lot of factors. Typically students from rural areas are less likely to attend college. Since in many public schools only half of the students graduate high school, very few end up attending college. I think it's in the neighborhood of 25% or 30% nationally.
