when i still lived with my parents, they just told me what sex was and not to do it, what is the birds and the bee thing for that?

Actually, it has more to do with activity than sex parts.

The idea of pollenating flowers being done by bees represents impregnation. No actual sex parts are needed to explain that. The birds represent the laying of the egg and hatching of the baby bird. Again, not sex parts necessary. The "Birds and Bee" talk is aimed at very young children who are not ready for the details, just a little knowledge because they want to know where the little brother came from.

The term carries over to older kids and "the talk", but at this point, birds and bees are gone.

The bees are supposed to be the male organs and the birds, the female's.

alot of parents feel uncomfortable talking straight out to their children about sex, so they use a representation instead and tell there kids that, the birds are girl parts, bee the boys parts.
