My daughter is turning 13 and we had planned a birthday party - but had to cancel due to bad weather & alot of people were saying they weren't going to be able to make it. Now, I need ideas on what we can do to save her day! (*I already have a nice restaurant picked out - but we need entertainment) Movies and skating aren't an option - she's bored with the same ole' stuff (bad party about 2 years ago and did the movie thing).

You all are giving great ideas - if her friends were availabe, but they are not. As for the skiing thing - we live in Texas. I am trying to find something that she (13) , her brother (7) and me and her father can do that she will like. She doesn't have any ideas, that's why I am on here. Thanks for your help!

How about a make over day. A half day at a spa where she could get a manicure, pedicure and maybe a new hairdo.

have your MIL put the party has been moved in her invitations it's not a cancellation if there is still a party it's just a movement your MIL is full of it go ahead and let her treat your kids the way she wants to treat them so that when they are older they will know what she is really like or have a nice long talk with your hubby and your mother in law about the problem and make sure she knows that the kids will resent her when they get older if she doesn't treat them fairly i do like the idea of having both parties though but when it comes to your son's birthday and he doesn't get two then he wont understand so that probably wont work you could also just call everybody on the list and tell them to ignore your Mil's invitations and still have the party at your house tell your husband that he shouldn't let his mom treat her grandson like that and ask how he would feel if she thought your hubby was the wrong sex and treated him differently or badly just because he was a boy

13 year olds at a NICE restuarant is a BAD idea. Why dont you ASK Her what she wants to do. Tell her you need ideas. She knows what she likes. Maybe go skiing on a Sat. with just like 2 of her close friends and her. Or let her have a boy and girl party (invite only 4 girls and 4 or 5 boys at most). Supervise whatever she decides to do.
Having a classic party with a cake and close friends over isn't a bad thing, even if she says she doesnt want the same old thing. but really get her to give you ideas. Quick, less expensive ideas.

To start with, at the restaurant, secretly tell them it's her birthday and most of the time, they will surprise the birthday person with a cake and a song. After dinner let her pick out what it is that she would like to do. Treat her extra special that day, maybe fix her favorite food for breakfast, take her to a store and let her pick out one thing that she has always wanted, treat her like a princess for one day.

for entertainment, go to a local coffee house and ask them about fresh new up-and-coming bands in the area. call them up and ask if they would like a gig at you daughter's party. also, if you have any garage bands on your street, knock on their door and ask them if they'd be interested. maybe they could even write a short song dedicated to your daughter. A nice dinner w/ all her friends and a cool young band in the background would be fun. they might even think one of the band members is hot and giggle over him all night. teens love music, that would be the perfect entertainment. not anything TOO extravagent... it's just right! make it up to her w/ cool presents,too... like maybe concert tix?

Unless it has to be a surprize, let her decide. SHe's getting old enough to feel good about making her own decisions. Stress that she is a teenager now, and what would the teenager like to do as an alternate plan?

I don't really know. She has friends though i'm sure so you can always have a sleep over on the Weekends and do something there. Mall, Arcade, Iunno. Sleep overs do usually work though
